I haven’t tested a build of Windows 7 since 6801; now a few months later I’ve decided to test out a early leaked build of what is basically soon-to-be public Beta 1. I’m not good a reviewing, so I’ll just describe my first experiences with the build – which is build 7000 by the way. The first thing I noticed is the small amount of space it takes up after installation; I only had a 14GB partition to install the build on because Window Vista’s disk management limited me to 14GB – even though I had 100GB spare, urgh. After installation, I still have 9GB left on the small partition, not bad. I don’t know if this is the case, but the superbar seems smaller than it did in 6801, which is good, I felt that it took up too much room, even on my 1440×900 resolution – the superbar is also enabled by default on this build. Oh, another thing which I found pretty cool is the new loading screen when you turn on your computer, it’s not really a loading bar per se, just a glowing Windows flag; but I like it. Windows Media Center, for me, is still no go area – it’s a bug riddled application that hasn’t supported my less-than-a-year-old TV stick since the first ever build of Windows 7, it’s very, very annoying and it crashes every now and again. Anyway, here’s the screenshots.

Davros is back, a new red Dalek is on the loose, and every companion from 2005 onwards returns for the season finale. I can’t wait, how about you?

I’ve created a Windows 7 category for my Blog, it will contain news: latest builds, leaks, updates, my own research such as screenshots, resources etc. You get the idea.

For an early leak it is rather good, nice new theme with better maximized border looks and taskbar gradient. Media Center though, is really, really bad at the moment, it looks ugly and works horribly. If you play a video and pause it, the sound wont play again when you resume on Media Player and Media Center. The new “show hidden icons” button is good, it brings up a little bubble of all of the other applications open. There is also a new loading bar when you turn on your PC, I say bar it’s a picture with a little glint of light going across the bottom third, looks nice though.
Just remember, if you are going to install it, remember to set your BIOS date back to 02 December 2007 before installing it or it will completely mess up. Then I recommend waiting till a timer crack is released before changing the date back.
That’s just some information on it. I will post screenshots and resources later.

Don’t expect any major UI changes, just enjoy it while the leaks are happening. I will be enjoying this sometime this week.
Of course I can’t provide a link, either join up on BA and provide 10 useful posts. Or you can try this acronym “TBP”.
Enjoy hunting.
